As the team of Marc Vermeulen, CWT, and Jason St. Cyr, CWT reached the end of their travels in Haiti, they headed back to the field one more time. To read the first two installments of this series, part one can be found here and part two can be found here.
PWW took AWT members back to Trianon area for the final field trip, located in a rural mountainous area of Haiti. Here, Marc and Jason learned the process of installing a biosand filter and then each took part in installing one themselves. While today’s trip was not quite as steep, there were definitely a few hikes in the hot sun. As a result of their work, the families who received the filters will experience clean water in their homes for the first time.
After the installation trip, Marc and Jason returned to the lab to review the results from the previous day’s field tests. The team is happy to report that the filters that were installed positively removed e-coli, something that was heavily present in the source water.
As the AWT team prepared to return to the USA and Canada, they discussed various new ways that AWT and PWW can have a strong partnership to the future.
