Title: Waste Water Treatment Fundamentals in 2022
Presenter:
Christian Anderson
Presentation Description:
Manufacturing facilities in North America, more than ever, are responsible for the discharge of treated process water from their location that meets all federal, state and local guidelines that are derived from either the local P.O.T.W or NPDES permitted receiving stream.
Manufacturing facilities that discharge treated waste water rely on their chemical supplier for advise and technical support that pertains to their ability to produce an effluent that assures compliance with permit parameters that are derived from the Federal Clean Waters Act. Waste water treatment today is broken down into two major categories that are explained below.
The Chemical Treatment Process
The treatment plant will need to understand fundamentals such as Ph adjustment— coagulation— flocculation— liquid solids separation— clarification— sludge management.
The AWT members today can provide waste water treatment specialty chemical products that are fundamental to the industries they serve. The AWT members also offer a benefit to the industry because they have test equipment and reagents needed in order to test water being discharged and make adjustments if needed.
The Physical Plant Treatment Process
In this process we will investigate systems available to the manufacturing facility. Equalization tanks— Ph adjustment tanks— clarifiers— dissolved air floatation systems— sludge management systems— post treatment filtration systems. Selection of proper chemical mixing equipment is also very important as well as proper chemical pump selection.
As members and attendees of the Association of Water Technologies we must realize how important waste water treatment is to the customers we serve. Industry today is looking for a partnership with their chemical supplier and it’s critical that we— the chemical supplier— bring to the table a complete understanding of the water and waste water treatment process that takes place at the customer’s location. The hot topics in the year 2022 and beyond will be waste reduction and sludge reduction. Disposal cost and programs such as ISO 14001 and ISO 15000 will be very important to North American industry and this reality will be discussed.
