Presentation Description:
Effective management of the risk of Legionella pneumophila in evaporative cooling water systems requires a systematic approach that includes water treatment, routine monitoring, asset maintenance, and management of water quality during service and idle periods. This paper describes the value of using a rapid, on-site qPCR test method and an innovative bacterial control system to control the population of Legionella bacteria in a model evaporative cooling water system. Researchers validated the qPCR test results for live bacteria using a modified culture test and confirmed the efficacy of the innovative bacterial control system by using a novel, rapid on-site qPCR test device. This study uses an on-site qPCR testing system from Spartan Bioscience Inc. to provide accurate and rapid results outside of a traditional laboratory.
