INCREASED CYCLES IN COOLING SYSTEMS, AND RECOVERY IN MEMBRANE SYSTEMS REQUIRE A MODIFICIATION OF RULES OF THUMB FOR EVALUATING SYSTEMS AND TEACHNING THE ESSENTAILS OF WATER TREAMENT IN AN UNDERSTANDABLE MANNER. THIS PAPER UPDATES RULES OF THUMB FOR SCALE CONTROL IN COOLING WATER AND MEMBRANE SYSTEMS. SCALES DISCUSSED IN A THAN VERSUS NOW CONTEXT INCLUDE CALCITE, SILICA AND METAL SILICATES, AND SULFATE SCALES INCLUDING BARIUM SULFATE. INHIBITOR RULES OF THUMB FOR SYNERGY ARE ALSO DISCUSSED.

HE IS PROUD TO HVE BEEN HONORED AS THE 2017 RAY BAUM WATER TECHNOLOGIST OF THE YEAR AND AS THE RECIPIENT OF THE FIRST EVER AWT INNOVATION AWARD IN 2020.
