Mark Juhl President
Mark Juhl
Jaytech, Inc.


Mark Juhl has worked in the water treatment industry full time for 17 years holding various positions within Jaytech, Inc., including Service Technician, Sales Representative, Corporate Development Director, Vice President, and President. Mark graduated from Luther College in Decorah, IA, in 1992 having earned two Bachelor of Science degrees. The following year he was technically trained in water treatment through Dearborn Chemical Company in Lake Zurich, IL. Mark has been a member of the AWT since 1992 and became a Director on the board in November of 2007. Mark is pleased and honored to have had the opportunity to work with past AWT presidents, board members, associate members, consultants, and the AWT membership at large.

Mark T. Lewis President-Elect

Mark Lewis has worked his 21-year career for AWT companies. Mark earned his CWT Certification in 1997 and became an active member of the AWT in 2000. He has served on the Education/Certification Committee, then chaired the Certification Committee for 3 years through its accreditation process and served as the Membership Chair for the past 4 years. Mark was recently elected to serve as a Board Member of the AWT.

Casey Walton Secretary

Casey Walton has a B. S. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Maine and 18 years experience in the chemical industry. Initially, Casey worked in the paper industry as a technical engineer for a large chemical company and managed wet end chemistry programs in the recycled linerboard industry. Casey’s career in the water industry started in 1998, and co-founded Walton Technologies in 2001. Casey is a Certified Water Technologist, Certified Corrosion Technologist, and holds a Master Applicators license for Pesticides in the State of Maine. Casey is currently on the pre-treatment and CWT committees.

Bernadette Combs Treasurer
Bernadette Combs, CWT
Industrial Water Engineering


Bernadette Combs began her career in water treatment as an engineering intern with Industrial Water Engineering. After graduating from Colorado State University with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering she began working full time as a Mechanical Engineer and currently is the Quality Manager at Industrial Water Engineering, Inc.

Combs is certified as a LEED Accredited Professional by the US Green Building Council. LEED is a performance based rating system for green buildings established by the U.S Green Building Council.

Combs is one of only two women that have passed the stringent requirements to become a nationally Certified Water Technologist through the Association of Water Technologies. The CWT designation reflects the highest level of competence in the water treatment industry.

Bernadette is a member NACE International (International Association of Corrosion Engineers), ASME (American Society of Mechanical Engineering) and SWE (Society of Women Engineers).

Trace Blackmore Immediate Past President

Trace Blackmore is the owner and operator of Blackmore Enterprises, Inc. and is the chair of the Marketing and Communications Committee. Trace was the youngest person ever to obtain the CWT designation. He is a facilitator with the National Safety Consul where he teaches OSHA programs to company administrators. Trace also conducts OHSA training, site survey and program writing with Blackmore Enterprises.

JimLukanich Director
Jim Lukanich, CWT

After graduating from Indiana State University in 1981, Jim spent two years at U.S. Steel’s Gary Works working with process cooling water and wastewater. Jim then worked for a major water treatment company selling and servicing water treatment programs to the middle market. Jim spent fourteen years working for Buckman Laboratories, a supplier of raw materials to the AWT marketplace. While at Buckman, Jim provided product support, technical consulting, and training to water treatment formulators both domestically and abroad. Jim currently serves as the technical director for ChemCal, Inc., a Texas based regional water treatment company. Jim has served as chairman of AWT’s Technical and Education committees and as a board member. He has also been actively involved in AWT’s water treatment training programs for several years. In 2008, Jim was awarded the prestigious Ray Baum Memorial Water Technologist of the Year Award.

Earl Martens Director

Earl has been involved in the chemical industry since joining a regional chemical manufacturer as a manufacturer’s representative. In 1996, he started a consulting and water management firm that provides services to institutional and industrial customers in Minnesota and Wisconsin.

Earl served as the chairman of the Legislative and Regulatory Committee, which regularly monitors and provides the AWT members with current information regarding legislative and regulatory issues that impact the water treatment industry.

Earl received a B.A. from Valparaiso University and a Masters Degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia.

Joe Russell Director
Joseph Russell, CWT
Watertech of America, Inc.


Joseph Russell began his career in water treatment through a student CO-OP with Watertech of America, Inc. in 1987 while attending the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Over the past 24 years at Watertech, he has served in various capacities related to the sales, service and support of their customers, as well as the day-to-day operations of the business. In 1998, Joseph became the principal owner of Watertech and has served as its President since then. Watertech of America, Inc. provides chemicals, equipment and consulting to a variety of commercial and industrial water users throughout the Midwest.

Joe has been a member of AWT (Association of Water Technologies) since 1987, and is the treasurer for the RETA-Milwaukee Chapter (Refrigeration Engineers and Technicians Association).

Joe earned his Bachelors of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. In 1987, Joe was awarded the Joseph A. Levendusky Memorial Scholarship presented by the International Water Conference. He earned the CWT (Certified Water Technologist) designation in 2009.

Marty Stephens Director

Marty is President of Solen, Inc. located in Brookhaven, MS. After earning a BS in Biology and a minor in Chemistry at Mississippi College, he began his water treatment career with Guardian IPCO in 1984. In 1987 he worked for the Entec division of Betz in Pensacola, Florida as a Field Representative. During his 10 year Betz career he served in several field positions to include Area Manager. In 1997, he founded ChemTechnologies, Inc., which is today Solen, Inc. Marty has been an active member of AWT since 1998.

Tina Craft Ex-officio Supplier Representative

Tina Craft is Product Manager, Water Treatment for Albemarle Corporation, a supportive contributor to the AWT for over 10 years. She holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting, and earned her Masters of Business Administration Degree from Louisiana State University in 2008. Tina has over 25 years of experience working in the industrial market segment including industrial and chemical manufacturing. In addition to being an AWT member since 2005, Tina is also an active member of CTI, NACE, and IPE. During her career, Tina's functional participation has extended to Marketing, Sales, Financial Analysis and Corporate Planning in domestic and international markets. Tina is very honored to have the opportunity to work with the AWT members as the supplier representative.
